As usual, Pat Oliphant has a way of pointing out some of the thoughts lurking beneath the surface. The revelation that a Fox News producer "fired up" anti-Obama protesters on the Washington Mall on 9/12 apparently is the basis for this cartoon. Certainly it combines with some of the fanatacism that has been circulating on purported news programs such as those hosted by Glenn Beck on Fox and Rush Limbaugh on so many radio stations.
Many of us on the left vehemently disagreed with President George W. Bush and his policies, but the debate rarely sank to the personal attack levels that seem to have become commonplace. Whatever happened to respectful exchange of ideas?
